Network & Security Administration Firewalls, VPNs, and Server Security
Master Network and Security Administration to safeguard your server environments. Learn about configuring firewalls, managing VPNs, implementing security policies, and protecting networks from cyber threats for a secure infrastructure.
This comprehensive course will guide you through Network & Security Administration, focusing on securing server environments with firewalls, VPNs, and robust security policies. You’ll begin by learning how to configure firewalls using tools like iptables, UFW, and firewalld to control network traffic and protect your servers from unauthorized access. This will provide a strong foundation for securing your server environments.
Next, the course will cover VPN configuration to ensure secure remote access to your servers and networks. You’ll learn how to implement and manage VPNs to encrypt communications, safeguard sensitive data, and ensure privacy for remote users. The course will also explore best practices for hardening servers by managing user roles, permissions, and securing SSH access.
Throughout the course, you’ll gain hands-on experience with real-world scenarios such as setting up intrusion detection systems, securing web applications, and configuring secure server environments. By the end, you’ll have the skills to design and implement robust network security measures, protect critical systems, and respond to potential security threats effectively.

Requirements
This course is designed for beginners who want to learn Network & Security Administration with a focus on firewalls, VPNs, and server security. While prior experience with networking or Linux servers is not required, a basic understanding of operating systems and networking will help you get the most out of this course.
Basic knowledge of operating systems (Linux/Unix preferred).
Familiarity with basic networking concepts (IP addresses, DNS, and VPNs) is a plus.
A text editor or IDE (e.g., Visual Studio Code, Nano, or Vim).
A willingness to learn and experiment with security and network administration tools.
No prior experience with firewalls, VPNs, or server hardening is required.
Module 1: Introduction to Networking & Security
This module introduces core networking concepts such as LAN, WAN, VLAN, and subnetting. Learners will explore the TCP/IP protocol suite, DNS, DHCP, and NAT. Additionally, the module covers common cybersecurity threats like malware, phishing, denial of service (DoS), and man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks.
Module 2: Network Infrastructure & Configuration
This module focuses on configuring and managing network infrastructure. Learners will gain hands-on experience with setting up routers, switches, and firewalls. They will also learn about static and dynamic IP addressing, as well as implementing port forwarding and NAT rules.
Module 3: Network Security & Firewalls
Learners will explore firewall configuration using popular tools like Cisco ASA, pfSense, UFW, iptables, and Windows Firewall. This module also covers setting up and managing VPNs using IPSec, OpenVPN, and WireGuard. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) will also be discussed.
Module 4: Secure Remote Access & Authentication
This module covers secure remote access techniques using SSH, RDP, and other secure shell protocols. Learners will understand the implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and access control mechanisms, including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for network devices.
Module 5: Wireless & Cloud Network Security
Learners will delve into Wi-Fi security techniques, including WPA2, WPA3, and MAC filtering. The module also covers cloud security best practices for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Learners will be introduced to the Zero Trust Security Model for enhancing overall security.
Module 6: Security Policies & Compliance
This module focuses on security frameworks and compliance standards, including ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and HIPAA. Learners will learn how to develop and enforce network security policies and best practices. The module also covers incident response planning and reporting.
Module 7: Penetration Testing & Threat Detection
Learners will gain hands-on experience with network scanning tools like Nmap and Wireshark. The module covers vulnerability identification using Metasploit and Nessus. Techniques for hardening servers and network devices to protect against potential attacks will also be covered.
This module explores implementing redundant and fault-tolerant networks. Learners will develop disaster recovery plans (BCP & DRP) and learn techniques for network log monitoring and analysis to handle incidents effectively.
