Cool Tech Projects – An Arduino + Sensors Course

This exciting and hands-on course introduces kids and teens to the world of smart technology using Arduino. Through daily guided projects, participants will explore sensors, automation, and real-world applications of electronics. From night lamps and temperature alerts to obstacle detectors and irrigation systems, students will build their own smart creations using coding and circuits.

The course focuses on foundational electronics, programming logic, and creative problem solving. Students will gain experience working with sensors like LDR, DHT11, ultrasonic modules, and more—along with actuators like LEDs, buzzers, servo motors, and relays. The final week features a full project build and a demo session where participants showcase their smart systems.

  3. Light sensing with LDR and auto lamp projects
  4. Temperature & humidity monitoring using DHT11
  5. Obstacle detection using ultrasonic sensors
  6. Combining sensors for smart alert systems
  7. Soil moisture sensors for auto irrigation
  8. Controlling devices using servo motors and relays
  9. Building a final project like smart home or security system

Requirements

This course is designed for beginners with no prior jewelry-making experience required.

  1. Ideal for ages 10-17 (activities can be adjusted for skill level)
  2. All components including Arduino, sensors, and tools are provided
  3. Students should bring a notebook for taking notes and sketching circuit ideas
  4. Participants must handle components responsibly and follow safety instructions
  • Day 1: Recap + Smart Project Goals
Quick recap of Arduino basics including pinMode, digitalWrite, and analogRead. Explore real-life smart project ideas in home automation, agriculture, and security. Understand sensor applications. Mini project: Blink an LED when the LDR detects darkness.
  • Day 2: Light Sensor Lamp (LDR)
Learn how an LDR works using analog input. Detect light levels to control an LED. Project: Night lamp that automatically turns on in a dark room. Bonus task: Trigger buzzer in bright light using reverse logic.
  • Day 3: Digital Thermometer with DHT11
Understand the DHT11 sensor to read temperature and humidity. Display data using Serial Monitor. Project: Build a digital thermometer with an LED alert if the temperature exceeds a threshold.
  • Day 4: Obstacle Detector with Ultrasonic Sensor
Work with the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to measure distance. Combine with LEDs and buzzers for alert system. Project: Distance alarm that activates when an object is detected within a specific range.
  • Day 5: Combine Sensors – Smart Alert System
Merge the DHT11 and ultrasonic sensors to build a multifunctional alert system. Create logic to control multiple outputs like LEDs and buzzers. Challenge task: Make buzzer pattern vary based on sensor values.
  • Day 6: Soil Moisture Sensor + Pump Control
Learn to use a soil moisture sensor to read analog values. Based on the moisture level, control an LED or simulate a water pump. Project: Auto irrigation system that activates when soil is dry.
  • Day 7: Servo Motor & Relay Basics
Work with servo motors to simulate gate or door movement. Introduction to relays to control high-voltage devices like lamps or fans. Project: Smart door opening or fan control demonstration.
  • Day 8: Smart Home Mini Setup
Combine multiple sensors such as LDR and DHT11 with output devices like relays and buzzers. Project: Smart home system that automates light and temperature control. Add push-button interaction for added features.
  • Day 9: Final Project Build
Choose a project: Smart Room, Automated Plant Watering System, or Security System with sensors. Build, wire, and program the chosen system. Get support for debugging and preparing a presentation.
  • Day 10: Final Presentation + Demo
Students demonstrate their final projects with circuit and code explanations. Presentations include visual setups or display boards. Participants receive certificates and save their code for future use.
